What Is an Energy Audit Checklist?

Professional energy auditors and those who choose to audit their own homes will use an energy audit checklist. This checklist is a printed report detailing the various aspects of a home that need to be audited.

Energy Audit Checklist

  1. Safety check on furnaces, water heaters and all gas appliances for gas leaks, high C.O. and backdrafts and other potential problems.

  2. Blower door test to find and quantify the amount of air leakage. This test also determines duct leakage.

  3. Thermal imaging of air leaks, insulation problems and other areas of concern. The pictures are input with notes in the report.

  4. Inspection of insulation in basement, crawl space, attic and walls.

  5. Evaluation of windows and doors for proper installation, efficiency and condition.

  6. We check for proper ventilation and moisture problems.

  7. After the inspection we write up a detailed report with thermal images and areas that need improvement. The report shows the amount of savings for each measure, including carbon footprint.
